Our Services

Research & Development (R&D)


The R&D activities at CDD Society strive to generate demand-driven information and knowledge in the areas of sanitation in general and Decentralised Wastewater Treatment Systems (DEWATSTM) in particular. Since its inception in 2010, Research and Development unit has been continuously monitoring implemented DEWATSTM and its performance more importantly disseminating the knowledge/insights gained by disseminating the same at conferences, workshops etc.


CDD Society and BORDA’s objective is to continually work towards improving the performance efficiency of DEWATSTM. CDD Society is part of the BORDA global R&D programme. The Programme critically assesses specific design characteristics of DEWATSTM in order to evolve optimal standard design dimensions.


Since the launch of the Global Monitoring and Evaluation (MonEv) programme in 2012, the MonEv team of CDD Society has successfully monitored 81 projects across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala and Nepal. In 2014, 30 DEWATS™ units have been monitored. Brief overviews of the performance of these units with respect to COD values are depicted in Graph 1 below.

DEWATSTM at Beedi Workers Colony (BWC), Kengeri.

Research and Development at CDD Society continuously monitors a DEWATSTM designed for a rehabilitated colony located in the vicinity of the premises. The findings from Carry out thorough analysis of physio-chemical characteristics in state of the art laboratory equipped with latest equipments. A global R&D program is followed where the research objectives are set, the results of which are used to continuously improve the design and performance of treatment systems.
