Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) Ahmedabad, Gujarat CEPT is a leading institution, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the areas of natural and built environments and related disciplines. CEPT University not only aspires to train competent technocrats but also wants to increase the students’ sensitivity to the emotional, spiritual and aesthetic dimensions of environmental planning and technology. www.cept.ac.in
Centre for Environmental Studies (CES) Chennai, Tamil Nadu CES is a department of the Anna University in Chennai. The centre was founded in 1955 and is an autonomous body that works under the Government of India. CES works in the areas of higher education and research in environmental science. www.annauniv.edu
Centre for Scientific Research (CSR) Auroville, Pondicherry CSR is a non-profit trust set up under the Auroville Foundation in 1984. It is an international voluntary organisation, working towards a sustainable future in the fields of renewable energy systems (wind, solar, biomass), appropriate architecture and building technologies, wastewater recycling and sanitation. Development of Humane Action (DHAN) Foundation Madurai, Tamil Nadu The DHAN Foundation is a non-profit development organisation with its headquarters in Tamil Nadu. Founded in 1997, the Trust works towards bringing highly motivated and educated young women and men to the development sector. They then work on bringing out new innovations in rural development and find ways to upscale development interventions to eradicate poverty. The collaboration with CDD focuses on decentralised basic needs services through DHAN’s Centre for Urban Water Resources (CURE). www.dhan.org
Environmental & Public Health Organisation (ENHPO) Kathmandu, Nepal ENPHO is an autonomous, non-profit making, non-governmental, scientific research and service-oriented organisation established in 1990. ENPHO envisages contributing towards sustainable community development with research and activities in the integrated programmes of the environment and public health. ENPHO is one of the first NGOs in Nepal with a well-equipped laboratory for environmental monitoring and analysis. The vision of ENPHO is the development and promotion of appropriate technologies and practices in order to create eco-societies. www.enpho.org
Excellent Novel Radical (ExNoRa) International Chennai, Tamil Nadu ExNoRa is a voluntary, non-governmental, non-political, non-profit, environmental service organisation. Its chapters are called the “ExNoRa Innovators Club” and are situated in various towns and villages. Its subchapters or replicable community based organisations, the so-called “Civic ExNoRa” (= CBO) are located in different streets and areas. The service at grassroot level is carried out by a miniature 'Home Based Organisation', the home grass root chapters “Home ExNoRa” at dwellings (House/Flat/Hut). Foundation for Educational Innovation in Asia (FEDINA) Kolar, Karnataka FEDINA is a non-profit, charitable trust founded in 1983. It was created with the objective of reaching those below the poverty line in order to help them to help themselves and to improve their living conditions. Its activities focus on community development programmes for those in peri-urban slums and tribal settlements in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. www.fedina-india.org
Hunnarshaala Foundation for Building Technology & Innovations Bhuj, Gujarat The genesis of Hunnarshala lies in the collaborations and associations that were created after the 2001 earthquake in Gujarat. Their objective was to help people in the reconstruction of their habitat. Post-quake reconstruction saw a large-scale implementation of earth construction. It was during this process that the artisans emerged as having tremendous knowledge; and the strengths of traditional building systems and forms were revealed. The non-profit organisation realised that the emerging ideas were important not only for the reconstruction process but are invaluable for long-term sustainable development in many contexts. www.hunnar.org
Indian Institute of Youth Welfare (IIYW) Nagpur, Maharashtra IIYW was established in 1973 and is one of the largest non-governmental development organisations in central India involved in vocational training, slum and rural development. It works across rural tribal areas and urban locations in Maharashtra and aims to prepare a cadre of youth and development workers. Its mission is to decentralise governance and decision-making, and create maximum employment opportunities for women and youth in particular. The architectural firm focuses on the design and construction of eco-friendly buildings, development and dissemination of sustainable approaches, and on the job training for professionals and artisans. Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG) Leh, Jammu & Kashmir LEDeG is a non-governmental organisation, registered as a society in Jammu and Kashmir in 1983. Since its formation, it has consistently worked towards serving the underprivileged living in the isolated mountainous areas of Ladakh. It has been striving to address the environmental, economic and cultural issues affecting these communities. Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited (RGRHCL) Bangalore, Karnataka Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited is a Government Company established by the Government of Karnataka in 2000 to cater to the housing needs of the economically and socially weaker sections of the society. CASS, the centre for Advanced Sanitation Solutions is a joint collaboration between RGRHCL and CDD Society showcasing sustainable sanitation solutions and serving as a centre for training, research and information dissemination. www.ashraya.kar.nic
Rural Literacy and Health Program (RLHP) Mysore, Karnataka In 1984, RLHP was registered as a charitable society. RLHP has been involved in slum development programmes since 1984 and is associated with DEWATS through Community Based Sanitation projects. RLHP is active in 56 slums and 25 villages in Karnataka State. The organisation runs two residential rehabilitation homes for street children, and a training centre for human development that offers training on social work to other NGOs, social activists and students. Sulabh International Academy of Environmental Sanitation (SIAES) New Delhi SIAES started in 1984 as an R&D and consultancy wing of Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, and was formally registered as a society in 1993. Their objectives are to formulate, monitor and implement projects related to environmental sanitation with a focus on water, sanitation, health and hygiene. The organisation is involved in capacity building and training at national and international levels, for professionals in local governments, academic institutions including schools, the private sector, NGOs and grass-root workers. The Design Collaborative Pondicherry The Design Collaborative was founded by like-minded senior professionals from the field of architecture, civil engineering and electrical engineering with more than 25 years of varied experiences in their fields. Today the building construction needs solutions that address varied specialised requirements with a highly integrated approach to design. Their consultancy services range from architecture, engineering, product and graphic design. Reflow (DSTS- Decentralised Sewage Treatment System) Reflow is a legacy organisation of Good Earth Consultants, formalised in 2008, with the object of utilising wastewater. EcoPro EcoPro is a unit of Aurore Trust, a business Trust under the Auroville Foundation. EcoPro is involved in ECOSAN programs, coordinated DEWATS projects UNICEF-funded programs for integrated WRM and, in general, addressed varied projects such as water supply, sanitation, toilets, WWT and reuse, RWH and eco-landscaping. www.auroville.org.in
CfID (Centre for Integrated Development) CfID (Centre for Integrated Development) is a partnership firm involved in concept development, design and implementation of DEWATS. It has worked with Hunnar Shaala, a CDD Partner, for technical designs of DEWATS and attended the CDD Engineers’ Training Programme in May 2010.
